Pantomime Pie

The first thought that struck me when I came into the Village Hall for the last night of Pantomime Pie was what a great job you had done with the backdrop and the Shoe! Because I was away during the dress rehearsals and other performances, I had not seen you in costume either – and suddenly you were all in character!

I enjoyed the interaction between Bad Witch, Wytcheath and Fairy, Isla Purbeck and both of you performed as well as I had hoped: Chris’s nose and make up were wonderful and make her look suitably gruesome. MaryRose pulled everyone along with a strong performance as the Dame. Robin Hood, played by Rosy, was suitably swashbuckling and I enjoyed the slapstick developed between Matthew and Ann in their roles as Kim and Matt respectively.

The scenes in Wareham Forest with the Babes, Holly and Berry and then in One Hundred Acre Wood had come on in leaps and bounds and I felt that you all characterised your parts well. The Merrymen were suitably merry and loud! Giant Agglestone deserves a mention, for being particularly gigantic (in what size boots was it, 10?) and giving us a wonderful characterisation and deep giant-like voice.

I felt there were good performances from many people, and exceptional ones from a few. The Judge for the Village Panto Competition gave us a very favourable critique, and, although I don’t know the results yet, they praised many performances and singled out Pooh for particular praise. I thought Catherine’s rendition of Robin Adair, in her role as Marion, deserved particular mention, as she sang with a pure and true soprano voice, quite beautifully.

My thanks go to you all for a really good production, and especially to all the Committee members, for organising everything and then stepping in and taking over at the last minute when I had to go abroad unavoidably. Thank you and congratulations.
